Despite the name of this dish, it’s not originated in Naples. Pasta al pomodoro (noodles with tomatoes) is a basic Italian recipe. We named our recipe spice kit “Napolitana” not “Neapolitana” to point out the difference. This Napolitana spice blend adds the Mediterranean aroma of sun-dried tomatoes and is enough for two dishes. Tips and Variations for the Spaghetti Napolitana Recipe

  • The sauce gets even better if it cooks 2 or more hours on low heat. Stir once in a while.
  • Option 1: Add 1 shredded carrot and finely chopped celery with the tomatoes.
  • Option 2: Add ground veal or other meat with the tomatoes, and diced carrots for the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Sprinkle plated dish with shredded Parmesan cheese.

Instructions
Sauce
  1. In a POT, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and fry them until they are translucent.
  3. Careful of splatters, add tomatoes.
  4. Stir in half of the Napolitana Spices.
  5. Optional add ground meat or finely cut vegetables. Mix well.
  6. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Cover and bring to boil. Turn heat to medium-low and cook for 30 minutes.
Noodles
  1. Cook noodles according to package instructions.
Serve
  1. Serve noodles with Napolitana sauce and garnish with basil leaves.
