Japanese Kushiyaki

Kushiyakis are Japanese grilled skewers. They are often a combination of meat with vegetables. Be inspired to make your own creations.

When mixing your Shichimi Togarashi spice blend, Asian flavor of Sichuan pepper (min. half of the pouch) and a bit of hotness are essential to the authentic blend.

  • Marinade: In a BOWL, mix 1 lb sirloin beef cubes with ginger, tamari, and sake. Cover and let marinade in the
fridge for 1-3 hours (not longer!). In the meantime, soak skewers in water if you use wooden skewers.
  • Shichimi Togarashi Spice Blend: Mix your desired amount of Sichuan pepper and cayenne with 2.5 tsp white sesame, 1.5 tsp black sesame, 2 tsp crushed tangerine peel, 1 tsp nori flakes, and 1 tsp poppy seeds.
  • Grill: Thread meat and vegetables of your choice alternating onto the skewers. Grill on high heat for
a couple of minutes until the beef turns brown. Turn over frequently.
  • Serve: Sprinkle Shichimi Togarashi spice blend over Kushiyaki skewers and serve with rice.
